The therapist is human too.
People often meet a therapist during one quiet, contained hour. What they do not always see is the thought and care that goes into holding that space.
I prepare, I reflect and I take my work to supervision. Sometimes I continue to sit with a question after a session has ended. I do not carry clients' stories into the world, but I do take seriously the responsibility of being trusted with them.
Being a therapist does not mean I have every answer, or that my own life is always neat. It means I have learned to stay present when things are uncomfortable, to listen without rushing and to be honest about what may help and what may not.
I want these notes to talk honestly about the work, while keeping proper boundaries. I will not tell clients' stories and I will not pretend therapy is a quick fix. I want to write about the hard parts, the human parts and what it can mean to keep going.
This is not the whole story. It is simply an honest place to begin.
